Jim Tucci

My first and most influential teacher was Jim Tucci. He was a great player, band director, teacher, mentor, and friend until his death in December 1998.

In 1952, at the age of only __, Jim led the Air Force Band on these recordings. These tracks have been salvaged from old tapes, but give a clear sense of his beautiful sound and the musicality of his playing.

Here are two from 1964 by Pittsburgh's famous Benny Benack dixieland group, featuring Benny on cornet, Jim on trombone, and Ernie Matteo on clarinet.

Beat 'em Bucs, the Pittsburgh Pirates' fight song, and The Charge of the Buccaneers from 1960, when the Pirates won the World Series.
